Ringed Pythons (Bothrochilus boa)
Ringed pythons are small pythons. Adults attain lengths of about six feet. Their origin is the Islands of New Britain and New Ireland near New Guinea. The babies have spectacular neon orange and black coloration. As the snakes grow, the orange fades to golden brown. They are highly iridescent. They are hardy and easy to breed.
Ringed pythons are very easy to maintain; they are terrestrial in habit, so they don't need much vertical space. I keep mine on coconut bark so I am able to mist it. I also supply them with a plastic hide box loosely filled with a mixture of 50/50 sand and bed-a-beast. You could also use moist sphagnum moss. They are a thin skinned species like reticulated and white lipped pythons, and have trouble shedding if conditions are too dry.
